Fairy tale epic adventure JACK THE GIANT SLAYER is, after a very long delay, ready to start it's cinematic life this March and today you can check out delightful new posters for the exciting movie. The film was supposed to open in cinema previous summer, but was moved to this year in order to get 3D treatment and additional changes and more marketing and also to give a chance to Warner to play the trailers when Peter Jackson's THE HOBBIT AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY played in cinemas this winter!

GIANT SLAYER STORY

The story of the film revolves around an ancient war which is reignited when a young farmhand unwittingly opens a gateway between our world and a fearsome race of giants. Unleashed on the Earth for the first time in centuries, the giants strive to reclaim the land they once lost, forcing the young man, Jack (Nicholas Hoult), into the battle of his life to stop them. Fighting for a kingdom and its people, and the love of a brave princess, he comes face to face with the unstoppable warriors he

thought only existed in legend … and gets the chance to become a legend himself.

GIANT SLAYER CAST

Acclaimed filmmaker Bryan Singer directs the 3D epic action adventure JACK THE GIANT SLAYER starring Nicholas Hoult as Jack, a young farmer who leads the expedition to rescue the princess. There was quite a great competition for the lead role and the list of actors who didn't get it includes Aaron Johnson and Aneurin Barnard. Eleanor Tomlinson plays Isabelle, the princess who is kidnapped by giants. Adelaide Kane (whom you will watch as Mary Queen of Scots in CW's REIGN epic show), Lily Collins and Juno Temple also screen tested for the role before Eleanor got it. Stanley Tucci portrays Lord Roderick, an adviser to the king with designs on usurping power. Ian McShane is King Brahmwell, the princess' father, who is none too thrilled about a union between his daughter and a farmer boy. Bill Nighy and John Kassir are Fallon, the two-headed

leader of the giants. Nighy plays the big head and Kassir plays the smaller head. Ewan McGregor, looking better than ever, portrays Elmont, the leader of the king’s elite guard, who helps fight giants.

GIANT SLAYER TIDBITS

It is interesting that the preproduction started back in 2009 when D.J. Caruso was supposed to direct it. Later on the director was replaced and Bryan Singer brought new writers and also the title of the film was changed from GIANT KILLER to GIANT SLAYER. A number of scenes in the film were shot in Puzzlewood in Britain, which features unusual tree and rock formations seen before in BBC TV series MERLIN and DR WHO, and which also inspired Tolkien to write THE HOBBIT!

Hollywood Spy's absolute favourite Welshman, deeply charismatic Luke Evans (THE HOBBIT, THE THREE MUSKETEERS, IMMORTALS), whom you shall watch this summer as a naughty guy in FAST AND FURIOUS 6 next to Dwayne Johnson, Vin Diesel, and Paul Walker, has got himself a new gig. This time, as "The Sun" reports, he will show his outstanding talent on television in new mini series GREAT TRAIN ROBBERY. The two part series will see him playing Bruce Reynolds who hatched the plan for the 1963 mail train

heist, at the time Britain’s biggest ever robbery, with a haul worth £41million in today’s money. After fleeing to Mexico, Bruce Reynolds spent five years on the run before being jailed for 25 years in 1969. He was released in 1978. One part of the television drama will follow the thieves while the other will circle around the police and their efforts to catch the robbers. The mini series should hit the British small screens sometime later this year!

In movie news from this weekend, GAME OF THRONES star Jason Momoa has been cast as Drax in upcoming sf film GUARDIANS OF

THE GALAXY joining Chris Pratt who got the lead role of Star-Lord the leader of the Guardians a few weeks ago. Drax the Destroyer is a super hero with incredible strength and the ability to emit energy blasts from his hands. Only a few days ago I informed you that new NBC sitcom ABOUT A BOY had found their male lead in David Walton, who will play a rich bachelor man-child whose life changes totally when he befriends a smart little kid who moves in next door with his eccentric divorced mother, and now I can also inform you that Minnie Driver has landed the role of the mother! The roles were played by Hugh Grant, Toni Collette and Nicholas Hoult in the film!

JUSTIN AND THE KNIGHTS OF VALOUR TRAILER

I have an extremely charming trailer for you today! The first one for the animated adventure that I spotlighted for you last year JUSTIN AND THE KNIGHTS OF VALOUR! Justin (Freddie Highmore) wants to be a knight but his father, Reginald (Alfred Molina), the chief counsel to the Queen (Olivia Williams), wants his son to become a lawyer. In need of guidance, Justin visits his Grandmother (Julie Walters), who tells him the story of his Grandfather, Sir Roland, the noblest knight in the kingdom and protector of the King until they were both betrayed and killed by the evil Sir Heraclio (Mark Strong). After he runs away from home, Justin meets Talia (Saoirse Ronan), a beautiful, feisty and independently-

minded girl, who shares his aspirations and whom he eventually falls for. He also meets a quirky wizard called Melquiades (David Walliams) who tells him where he can find the magical Abbey where the Knights of Valour once trained. At the Abbey, he is mentored by three ancient monks. Blucher (James Cosmo) instructs him in knightly ways; Legantir (Charles Dance) teaches him there is still

magic in the world; and Braulio (Barry Humphries) who creates magical contraptions, and is responsible for Gustav, the gas-powered wannabe-dragon crocodile (I swear I fell in love with the crocodile in the trailer, probably one of the most delightful animated characters ever :)!

Justin, though an unlikely candidate for knighthood, is determined to pursue his ideals. Called upon to prove himself when Heraclio and his minions, lead by Sota (Rupert Everett), return and threaten the kingdom, Justin saves the day.

Are you excited to finally see History Channel's first ever scripted series VIKINGS which starts its life on the small screens March 3rd? The channel has released the first poster for the series and also a number of clips. You can see three of them below! The intricate designs that you can see on the poster, next to Travis Fimmel's head, ornamenting the metal letter V actually have a meaning: from top to bottom they represent craftsmanship and technological advances, brotherhood and unbreakable bonds, and finally growth and life.

VIKING STORY

The exciting new historical show from legendary Michael Hirst, with a rather realistic look, will, in nine episodes and with the budget of about E30 million, follow Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel) while he

rises to become King of the Viking tribes. Ragnar Lothbrok is an adventurous farmer who discovers a new navigation technique that will change everything. He believes it will enable Norse ships to sail west safely to find out if the tales of a rich land called England are true.

He becomes frustrated when his local chieftain, Earl Haraldson (Gabriel Byrne), forbids his raiders to go west because he wrongly believes nothing is there. Ragnar's conflict with the Earl fuels much of

the early part of the series, which begins with Ragnar and his brother, Rollo (Clive Standen), finishing off a group of Saxon soldiers at the end of an epic battle. Rollo is Ragnar’s cousin and initially one of his closest friends, involved in his early raids. But soon becomes jealous of

his fame and success. Joining Fimmel, Byrne and Standen are Gustaf Skarsgard as Floki, Ragnar's friend and an impish character and ship builder who designs and builds the prototype of the new generation of Viking ships which can sail across the open ocean but also up the

shallowest of rivers. He is a design genius and he allows Ragnar to fulfil his dreams of sailing west and discovering new lands and new civilizations. Katheryn Winnick appears as Lagertha, a warrior woman and Ragnar's fearless wife, Jessalyn Gilsig as Siggy, Earl Haraldson's duplicitous wife who performs her duties impeccably and with style, but she may not be completely loyal to her husband, and

George Blagden as Athelstan, a young, innocent Christian monk captured by Ragnar on his first raid on England. Irish actor Eric Higgins ("The Tudors") plays warrior Knut and Gerard McCarthy ("The Fall") is Bronsted. The costumes were done by amazing Joan Bergin who made costumes in THE TUDORS and CAMELOT.

VIKING TIDBITS

Unlike past movies and dramas that caricatured them as barbarians VIKINGS will not look at Viking culture from the outside, but from within the heart of Viking society. It will be a series high on adventure, exploration, conflict, warfare and bloodshed — for these were extreme times — but, at its heart, it will also be a family saga. The show will boast a polished, stylized look that pushes the boundaries of television drama. Imaginatively choreographed battles will emphasize individual points of view, strategies and ruses rather than mindless, graphic slaughter. Fast-paced battle sequences will be balanced against the astonishing beauty of the fjords and Viking longboats, works of art on a bloody canvas.

First today, some sweet TV news! CW has found the lead actress for their new period show REIGN! Australian actress Adelaide Kane will play Mary Queen of Scots at the time when she arrived to France as the future wife of Prince

Francis. Beside depicting her stay at the court with her three ladies in waiting amidst terrifying foes, mysterious forces, and a world of sexual intrigue, REIGN will also show Mary as a "warrior queen" with a "girl posse" who fought to gain the throne of Scotland after spending her childhood at the French court! Period set tale will also be seen in new TV show RED BRICK ROAD, described as a continuation of the "Wizard of Oz" story but told in a Game of Thrones fashion, filled with politics, intrigue and violence. Meanwhile, AMC is sticking to survival topics in their new show THE TERROR! Based on Dan Simmons bestseller, and produced by Ridley Scott, the show is set in 1847 and follows the crew of a Royal Naval expedition in search of the Arctic’s treacherous Northwest Passage. Instead, they discover a monstrous predator that stalks the ships in a desperate game of survival, which could threaten the region and its native people forever.

TELEVISION HEADLINES

And even more TV news, people, since we are in the casting season for 2013 pilots: THR reports that Rupert Grint is moving to small screens

taking the lead role in CBS sitcom SUPER CLYDE! He will play the title role of Clyde, the well-meaning and sweet yet slightly neurotic guy who never feels like he really fits in. The avid comic book reader considers himself a borderline agoraphobic with mild to severe anxiety issues who wishes he were a super hero himself. When Clyde inherits a $100,000 a month inheritance from his long-dead eccentric Uncle Bill, he decides that the cash will be his secret super power and will use it only for good and reward the good hearted. Another CBS show ready to air this summer based on Stephen King's UNDER THE DOME story,

has found another cast member - dashing Mike Vogel will play a mysterious guy in the science fiction show that follows residents in the community of Chester's Mill as they deal with the postapocalyptic conditions that ensue when a strange dome mysteriously encapsulates the town. Hitting small screens this June, the series already has "True Blood"'s Aisha Hinds, "Secret Circle"'s Britt Robertson, "CSI: NY"'s Natalie Martinez, Jolene Purdy, Nicholas Strong, Alex Koch and Colin Ford in the cast.

MOVIE HEADLINES

In film news, THR reports that David Ayer (END OF WATCH) will both write and helm WW2 film FURY! Set in April 1945 as Nazi Germany is collapsing, the story follows a five-man crew of an American

tank named Fury as they embark on a heroic mission that becomes a battle for survival against a desperate German army. Yet another WW2 epic will be seen in DUNKIRK. To be directed by Oliver Parker (DORIAN GRAY) the film tells the story of the courageous British civilians who rescued countless British and French troops during World War II. The battles that took place gave allies the advantage during the war. And "Variety" reports that Ralph Fiennes is likely to star in romantic fantasy drama SANDS which centres around a New York couple who are involved in an accident that leaves the wife in a coma. Her disembodied spirit travels to India where she falls in love with an imaginary man, and the woman is forced to choose between her new love and old life with her husband.Talk about a complex plot!

Here is some lovely news for all the fans of DOWNTON ABBEY (which I personally find snobbishly monotonous, but that is just moi) - according to "Variety" Dan Stevens has joined Liam Neeson in

A WALK AMONG THE TOMBSTONES. Neeson will play alcoholic private investigator Matt Scudder, who operates just outside the law. The story follows Scudder as he takes a case to find the kidnapped wife of a drug dealer. He discovers the kidnappers are linked to a number of brutal murders and kidnappings! As I've reported before, Dan Stevens will also star next to Benedict Cumberbatch in THE FIFTH ESTATE, a film about the famous hero of the freedom loving world Julian Assange, which traces the heady, early days of WikiLeaks, culminating in the release of a series of controversial and history changing information leaks. The website’s overnight success brought instant fame to its principal architects and transformed the flow of information to news media and the world at large!

TELEVISION HEADLINES

In TV news - it seems that dashing Dylan McDermott has found himself a new gig after AMERICAN HORROR STORY. He will join new CBS show HOSTAGES

which has Toni Collette in the lead role. Coming from Jerry Bruckheimer, the show will follow a Washington, D.C., surgeon who is thrown into a political conspiracy after being chosen to operate on the president of the United States. Her family is taken hostage, and it's her responsibility to save their lives. McDermott will play Duncan, a righteous FBI agent who is at the centre of a political conspiracy involving the president but whose role will come as a surprise. Showtime has also found their own male lead for their new show VATICAN. Our favourite Matthew Goode (BIRDSONG, WATCHMEN) will play papal secretary and his closest confidante, who has a very powerful perch within the inner-circle of the Vatican, in this contemporary thriller about spirituality, power and politics, set against the modern day political machinations within the Catholic church. The potential series would explore the relationships and rivalries in addition to the mysteries and miracles behind the institution! The pilot will be directed by Ridley Scott!

MOVIE HEADLINES

Another new sf movie will be RESILIENT. With Virginia Madsen and Robert Beltran in the cast, the sci fi disaster movie will revolve

around a spaceship engineer returning to Earth to save his family from natural catastrophes sweeping the globe! But if you prefer comedies, THR reports about Lauren Graham, Joel McHale and Robin Williams starring in FRIGGIN' CHRISTMAS! The dysfunctional family comedy follows Boyd Mitchler (McHale) and his wife Luann (Lauren Graham) as they spend a dreaded Christmas with Boyd’s father Mitch (Williams) and his family of misfits. Upon realizing that he has left all of his son’s gifts at home, Boyd hits the road with his father and younger brother in an attempt to make the eight-hour round trip before sunrise. The authors of Oscar nominated PARANORMAN are working on new animated film THE BOXTROLLS! With Toni Collette and Ben Kingsley in the voice cast, the 3D stop motion/CG hybrid feature based on Alan Snow’s fantasy adventure novel "Here Be Monsters", unfolds in Cheesebridge, where beneath its cobblestone streets dwell the Boxtrolls. Legend has it that they are foul monsters, but in truth, the Boxtrolls are a community of oddballs who have raised an orphaned human boy. The visually dazzling mash-up of gripping detective story, absurdist comedy and steampunk adventure will also be a moving and human story with timelessness and powerful emotional resonance.
